The TVS Sundram Fasteners Tension Control Bolt Assembly is a pre-assembled structural bolting set - a round (cup) head bolt with a splined pintail, a heavy hex nut and a hardened chamfered washer - made by Sundram Fasteners Limited to DIN EN 14399-10 for the bolt and nut and DIN EN 14399-6 / DASt 021 for the washer, grade 10.9; sizes on enquiry (EN 14399-10 covers M12 to M36). It is installed with a shear wrench: the inner socket holds the spline while the outer socket turns the nut, and the pintail shears off at the calibrated torque of the matched, lubricated set, bringing the bolt to its design tension without a torque wrench setting. The bolt, nut and washer are supplied and must be used as one set.

How to choose and fit

1. Use the set exactly as supplied: the bolt, nut and washer are a matched, lubricated set to EN 14399-10 - do not substitute the nut or washer, do not add lubricant, and do not reuse a bolt once its pintail has sheared.
2. Fit the set with the chamfered washer under the nut, pintail outwards, and bring the joint to snug tight.
3. Engage the shear wrench: the inner socket on the spline, the outer socket on the nut.
4. Run the wrench until the pintail shears off - the bolt is now at its design tension - and keep the sheared tips as the record.
5. Inspect visually: a sheared pintail means the bolt was tensioned; an intact one means it was not.
