Is this the right one for you?
Check these five things before you order:
- The circuit is three-phase and the neutral does not need to be switched - for example a motor feeder, a capacitor bank or a feeder without neutral (triple pole).
- The load current suits one of the fixed ratings - 63, 100 or 125 A - and the cables are sized for it.
- The prospective short-circuit current where it is fitted is within 10 kA at 415 V AC.
- Fixed overload and short-circuit settings suit the load - this frame has no adjustable releases.
- Your cables fit the terminals (up to 35 sq mm copper). A 125 A circuit usually needs a bigger cable - for example 50 sq mm copper - and aluminium cables are larger still; for those, ask us about extended terminals / spreader links.

How to choose and fit it
MCCB or MCB. Between 63 and 125 A either can do the job: Polycab's 10 kA C-curve MCB comes in 63 A at MRP and in 80, 100 and 125 A at a price on request, and both trip thermal-magnetically. Choose the MCCB for a feeder or panel incomer that needs more than an MCB gives: a service breaking capacity (Ics) of 10 kA at 415 V AC against the MCB's 7.5 kA, an 8 kV impulse withstand against its 4 kV (6 kV at 80 to 125 A), a thermoset (DMC / SMC) case, and accessories to trip it remotely, signal its state or operate it from the panel door. Where an MCB's breaking capacity is enough and no accessories are needed, a DIN-rail MCB is the simpler fit.
Rating. The overload and short-circuit releases are fixed, so choose 63, 100 or 125 A to suit the load current and the cables. The terminals take up to 35 sq mm (copper); a 125 A circuit usually needs a bigger cable, so for larger cables or lugs ask us about extended terminals / spreader links. In a hot panel the fixed overload release trips sooner, so leave a margin - ask us for the derating.
Breaking capacity. The service breaking capacity (Ics) is 10 kA at 415 V AC - the MCCB can clear a fault of that size and stay in service. Make sure the prospective fault current at the panel is within 10 kA - your electrical consultant or contractor can confirm it; at the LT panel of a transformer of about 315 kVA or more it can be higher.
TP or FP. The TP switches the three phases; the FP switches the neutral as well. Use the FP where the neutral must be switched - for example the incomer of a board fed from the grid or a DG set through a changeover, or wherever your electrician specifies it. Use the TP where the neutral need not be switched: three-phase loads without neutral, such as motors and capacitor banks, or a feeder whose neutral runs through a neutral link. A combined neutral-and-earth (PEN) conductor must never be switched.
Mounting and accessories. It is fitted inside a panel or enclosure; Polycab also offers an MCCB metal enclosure on request. Phase barriers for both sides and spreader links for one side come in the box; the other accessories are ordered separately. The catalogue does not say whether it may be fed from the bottom terminals, so ask us before reverse-feeding it - for example from a DG set or an inverter.
Testing. The push-to-trip button on the front trips the mechanism, so its operation can be checked - it switches off the load and does not test the overload and short-circuit releases. ON, OFF and TRIP are indicated.
Where it is used
- three-phase feeders and loads without a switched neutral
- LT side of distribution transformers, where the fault level at the panel is within 10 kA
- DG set panels, motor control centres and distribution boards - on a DG supply the fault current can be too low for the fixed magnetic release to trip instantly, so ask us to check it against the DG rating
- grid / DG changeovers: these are usually four pole (see the Polycab FP MCCB) and must be interlocked so the two supplies can never be closed together. Polycab's catalogue lists no interlock for these MCCBs, so ask us before using a pair as a changeover; up to 63 A, the Polycab FP MCB Changeover Switch does the interlocked changeover in one device - it is a switch (IS/IEC 60947-3) with no overload or short-circuit trip, so an MCB, MCCB or fuse must still protect the board
- back-up (short-circuit) protection of motor feeders - the motor's own starter and overload relay protect the motor; the fixed releases must ride through the starting current, so ask us to check the rating against the motor and starter
- capacitor banks - with a fixed overload release, the rating is usually chosen at about 1.5 times the bank's current, with the cable sized for that rating
- UPS and other electronic circuits - the TP does not switch or protect the neutral, so where the neutral current can be high, ask us before ordering
- furnaces and heating elements
- rectifier panels feeding DC loads up to 250 V DC (7.5 kA at 250 V DC) - confirm the DC wiring with us

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an MCB and an MCCB?
An MCCB is a heavier moulded-case breaker for feeders and panel incomers; an MCB is a DIN-rail breaker for distribution boards. Both trip on overload and short circuit with thermal-magnetic releases. This MCCB (frame 1: 63, 100 and 125 A) has a service breaking capacity (Ics) of 10 kA at 415 V AC; Polycab's 10 kA MCBs are rated 10 kA (Icn) but 7.5 kA in service (Ics). The MCCB also has an 8 kV impulse withstand and takes field-fittable accessories such as shunt releases, auxiliary switches and rotary handles. Polycab lists its MCBs at MRP up to 63 A, and its 10 kA C-curve MCB also in 80, 100 and 125 A at a price on request.
Can I adjust the trip settings?
No. On this frame both the overload (thermal) and short-circuit (magnetic) releases are fixed, so choose the rating - 63, 100 or 125 A - that suits the load and the cables. Polycab's wider MCCB range includes adjustable types - ask us.
TP or FP - which do I need?
The TP (3 pole) switches the three phases; the FP (4 pole) switches the neutral as well. Use the FP where the neutral must be switched - for example the incomer of a board fed from the grid or a DG set through a changeover, or wherever your electrician specifies it. Use the TP where the neutral need not be switched - three-phase loads without neutral, such as motors and capacitor banks, or a feeder whose neutral runs through a neutral link. A combined neutral-and-earth (PEN) conductor must never be switched. Polycab's catalogue does not say whether the FP's neutral pole has its own trip, so where the neutral current can be high - as with UPS and other electronic loads - or the neutral conductor is smaller than the phases (3.5-core cable), ask us before ordering.
Does it protect against earth leakage?
No. It trips on overload and short circuit only, and an earth fault may not draw enough current to trip it quickly. For earth-leakage protection, use RCCBs on the circuits it feeds, each behind an MCB no larger than the RCCB's rating, or an earth-leakage relay with a core-balance CT that trips the MCCB through a shunt release - pass all the live conductors, including the neutral, through the CBCT (never the earth conductor), and use the relay's test button regularly, because a shunt release will not trip if its supply or wiring fails.
Which accessories are available?
Shunt releases for 110, 240 and 415 V AC, an alarm switch and an auxiliary switch (changeover, 250 V AC), direct and extended rotary handles with a padlock device, and extended terminals / spreader links - see Polycab MCCB Accessories. Phase barriers and spreader links for one side come in the box. Polycab also offers an undervoltage (UVT) release, an MCCB metal enclosure and a vertical TPN (VTPN) distribution board with an MCCB incomer, on request.
What cable size fits the terminals?
Polycab gives the terminal capacity as 35 sq mm (copper) and says the terminals suit copper and aluminium conductors. A 125 A circuit usually needs a bigger cable - for example 50 sq mm copper - and aluminium cables are larger still; for those, the lugs may need extended terminals / spreader links. Send us the cable size and material and we will confirm the termination before you order.
Can it be used on DC?
Yes, up to 250 V DC: Polycab gives a breaking capacity of 7.5 kA at 250 V DC and lists rectifier panels feeding DC loads among its uses. It is not for higher DC voltages, such as solar PV strings. On DC the poles are wired differently and the short-circuit trip level is not the same as on AC, and the catalogue gives neither, so send us the highest DC voltage (for a battery bank, its charging voltage), the current and the fault level, and we will confirm the fit and the wiring.
Is there a Polycab MCCB above 125 A?
Yes. Polycab's B2B catalogue (2025) describes its MCCB range as 32 to 1,250 A in 3 and 4 poles, fixed and adjustable, with breaking capacities from 10 to 85 kA. This page covers the frame-1 MCCBs (63, 100 and 125 A, 10 kA) that Polycab's switchgear technical catalogue lists with item codes. For another rating, adjustable releases or a higher breaking capacity, call +91 9340081159 with the current, the number of poles and the fault level.
What warranty does it carry?
Polycab's switchgear technical catalogue does not state a warranty period for these MCCBs - ask us and we will confirm it with the price.
