How to choose and fit it

Planning. Measure the outlines, letters or curves to light and work out the rolls and joints. Top-bend neon flex bends across its glowing face, like an ordinary LED strip, so it can wrap round a column or follow a curved surface; side-bend neon flex bends sideways, in the plane of its glowing face, so it can trace letters, logos and outlines on a flat surface. Polycab does not illustrate the two versions, so send us a sketch and we will confirm the version.

Cutting and handling. Cut only at the marked cut points with the power off, and seal every cut end with the correct end cap to keep IP66; have 240 V AC versions cut and terminated by a qualified electrician - ask us for the cut interval of your version. Polycab's handling precautions: do not twist, stretch, crush or step on the neon flex. Fix it where people cannot walk on it.

Control and wiring. Each DMX512 fitting is given a start address and uses one or more DMX channels - typically 1 for single white, 3 for RGB and 4 for RGBW, more if segments are controlled separately. On strip lights, each run or zone takes its DMX address through a DMX decoder, unless DMX is built into the strip - we confirm what is supplied with your order. The fittings are run from a DMX controller, which sets colours, scenes and dynamic effects. A DMX line (one universe) carries up to 512 channels and typically up to 32 fittings over about 300 m, whichever limit comes first: daisy-chain the fittings on shielded DMX cable (no Y-splits) and fit a 120-ohm terminator at the end of each line. For more fittings, longer runs or branches use a DMX splitter, which repeats the same channels on every output; for more channels use another controller output. ON-OFF versions switch like normal lights. 24 V DC versions need LED drivers sized for the connected load and placed close to the fittings, because long 24 V cable runs lose voltage - the length of each run per feed is limited, so ask us for the maximum. Feed the drivers, like the 240 V AC versions, from an earthed circuit protected by a 30 mA RCD.

Design. Facade lighting is planned building by building - send us elevations or photographs and the effect you want, and we will propose the fittings, beam angles, colours and control. A qualified electrician should install and connect the fittings, with the supply isolated.
