How to choose and fit it

What an isolator does. It switches the load on and off and, when off, separates the circuit from the supply so that work can be done on it safely. It has no automatic trip.

Protection. Fit it with an MCB, RCBO or fuse for overload and short-circuit protection, and an RCCB where earth-leakage protection is needed.

Rating. Choose a rating at least equal to the current of the circuit, and at least the rating of the protective device ahead of it. Polycab lists 40, 63, 80, 100 and 125 A.

Poles. The triple pole version switches a three-phase supply without neutral. Polycab makes the isolator in SP, DP, TP and FP.

Mounting. It clips on a standard DIN rail in a distribution board or enclosure.
