How to choose and specify it

Type P. IEEE 1580, the recommended practice for marine and offshore cable, describes type P - a flame-retardant cross-linked polyolefin insulation commonly used on rigs and platforms.

Mud resistance. Drilling areas expose cables to drilling mud and oils; the XL-CPE and CSPE sheaths are made to resist them. Both contain chlorine, so these cables are not halogen-free: where a halogen-free cable is required (for example to NEK 606), see the Polycab Marine and Offshore Cable or ask us.

Glands and armour. In hazardous areas, use Ex-certified glands suited to the cable - unarmoured or braid armoured. Terminate and earth the braid as the yard, class or project rules require, in a gland that clamps the braid or with a separate earthing clamp. Single-core cables on AC circuits need a non-magnetic braid; tell us the circuit.

Approvals. Tell us the classification society or listing your project needs, and we confirm the approval status for the cable type with Polycab.
