How to choose and specify it

Round or flat. Flat submersible cables (3 core, up to 95 sq mm) take less space in narrow borewells; round cables come in 3 and 4 core up to 120 sq mm and suit open wells, dewatering pumps, larger pumps and runs where a round cable glands more easily.

Size. Size the cable for the motor full-load current and the total length from the starter to the pump, keeping the voltage drop within the pump maker's limit - long, deep runs often need a larger size than the current alone suggests.
