HEX ring type tinned copper cable terminal ends are used to terminate flexible cables on control panels, meters and similar equipment. Because the ring encloses the stud, the connection stays secure in high-vibration applications. They are made from high-conductivity copper, electro-tinned, in non-insulated versions from 1.5 to 150 sq mm and PVC-insulated versions from 1.5 to 6 sq mm with colour-coded sleeves. HEX PVC-insulated terminals are a cost-effective alternative to nylon or heat-shrink insulated terminals, and the insulation support helps prevent wire damage in bending. Made by HEX, the brand of Brass Copper & Alloy (I) Ltd., Mumbai — an ISO 9001 company whose products are tested by CPRI (India), UL (USA), KEMA (Netherlands) and SIRIM (Malaysia).

At a glance

  • Non-insulated (HR): 1.5 to 150 sq mm, stud holes 2.2 to 23 mm
  • Insulated (HRI): 1.5 to 6 sq mm
  • Colour code: colour-coded sleeves: 1.5 sq mm red, 2.5 sq mm blue, 4–6 sq mm yellow
  • Material: E-copper (electrolytic copper), minimum 97% IACS conductivity to IS 191
  • Finish: electro-tinned to IS 1359

Why ring terminals

  • Secure under vibration — the ring cannot slip off the stud.
  • Colour-coded insulation makes wire size obvious.
  • Wide stud choice from 2.2 to 23 mm.
  • Crimp, solder or weld — suitable for different joining techniques.

Specifications

Where it is used

  • Control panel and PLC wiring
  • Meters, relays and instrument terminals
  • Battery and DC connections
  • Vehicle, rail and machinery wiring

Which small terminal do I need?

  • Ring (this page) — the most secure; cannot slip off the stud even if the screw loosens.
  • Fork / spade — quick to fit and remove without taking the screw out.
  • Pin and blade — for tunnel and clamp-type terminal blocks.
  • End-sealing ferrules — for fine-stranded wire in spring and screw terminals.
  • Snap-on — push-on quick-disconnect tabs.
  • Insulated butt connectors — for joining two wires.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose a ring terminal over a fork?

A ring encloses the stud, so it cannot slip off if the screw loosens — the right choice where there is vibration.

What do the colours mean?

Red for 1.5 sq mm, blue for 2.5 sq mm and yellow for 4–6 sq mm wire.

Which sizes are insulated?

1.5 to 6 sq mm; larger sizes are non-insulated.

How are they crimped?

With a ratchet crimping tool matched to the colour/size; the insulation support grips the wire insulation to protect it in bending.
