How to choose and specify it

Aluminium on the DC side. Aluminium needs a larger cross-section than copper for the same current but is much lighter and usually cheaper per ampere, which pays on long DC runs in large plants.

Terminations. Use connectors and lugs rated for aluminium, clean and seal the conductor as the connector maker instructs, and tighten to the stated torque - poor aluminium joints are a common cause of hot spots. On NEC projects, use lugs and connectors listed and marked for aluminium (for example to UL 486A-B); ask us to confirm the listing of the lugs you choose.
