HEX Bimetallic Aluminium-Copper Cable Lugs – Copper Palm, 10 to 630 sq mm and 4-Hole to 1300
Al-Cu bimetal terminals that connect aluminium cables to copper busbars without galvanic corrosion at the joint.

HEX aluminium-copper bi-metal terminals (HBT) are used to connect aluminium cables to copper busbars. The barrel is aluminium, crimped onto the aluminium conductor; the palm is copper, bolted to the copper bar — so the aluminium-to-copper interface is made inside the lug, not at the bolted joint where it would corrode. Standard lugs run from 10 to 630 sq mm, and square four-hole palms from 500 to 1300 sq mm. HEX bimetallic lugs (500 sq mm) have been type-tested to AS/NZS 4325.1 and IEC 61238-1 by SIRIM QAS International, Malaysia. Made by HEX, the brand of Brass Copper & Alloy (I) Ltd., Mumbai — an ISO 9001 company whose products are tested by CPRI (India), UL (USA), KEMA (Netherlands) and SIRIM (Malaysia).

Why a bimetallic lug
- No galvanic corrosion at the busbar — copper meets copper, aluminium meets aluminium.
- Standard and heavy sizes, including four-hole palms up to 1300 sq mm.
- Type-tested to AS/NZS 4325.1 and IEC 61238-1.
- Saves copper — lets you use aluminium cable on copper-busbar equipment.

Which HEX aluminium termination do I need?
- Aluminium lugs and through connectors — general-purpose Al terminations, 16–300 sq mm.
- Long barrel Al lugs for XLPE — heavy duty, 25–1000 sq mm.
- DIN 46329 Al lugs — barrier design with oil stop, 25–500 sq mm.
- Sector lugs and ferrules — for 3- and 4-core sector-shaped conductors.
- Bimetallic lugs (this page) — aluminium cable onto copper busbar.
- Mechanical connectors — screw-clamp, no crimping tool needed.

Frequently asked questions
What is a bimetallic lug used for?
To connect an aluminium cable to a copper busbar or terminal: the aluminium barrel is crimped on the cable and the copper palm is bolted to the copper bar.
Why not bolt an aluminium lug straight onto copper?
Aluminium and copper in direct contact corrode galvanically in the presence of moisture; a bimetallic lug moves that interface inside the lug.
Are four-hole bimetallic lugs available?
Yes — square-palm HBT lugs from 500 to 1300 sq mm with four holes.
How is it crimped?
Crimp the aluminium barrel with a tool and die for aluminium conductors of that size, from the palm end towards the barrel end.
