Is this the right one for you?

Check these four things before you order:

  • You know where each cable runs: the twisting loop below the nacelle (torsion-resistant), the tower, or the base and transformer.
  • You know the voltage grade for each circuit - 0.6/1 kV, MV, or 300/500 V and 450/750 V for the BS EN 50525 types - and the size.
  • You know which cables are power and which are control or signal.
  • You have the turbine maker's cable specification.

Construction and standards

  • Conductor: annealed bare or tinned copper
  • Conductor screen: as required (MV cables)
  • Insulation: PVC, heat-resistant, XLPE or EPR
  • Insulation screen: as required (MV cables)
  • Elements: cores or pairs laid up

  • Outer sheath: PVC, heat-resistant, TPE or CPE
  • IEC 60502-1: extruded-insulation power cables for 1 kV (Um 1.2 kV) and 3 kV (Um 3.6 kV)
  • IEC 60502-2: extruded-insulation power cables from 6 kV (Um 7.2 kV) up to 30 kV (Um 36 kV)
  • IS 9968 (Part 1): elastomer insulated cables up to and including 1100 V (general purpose 60 °C, heat-resisting 90 °C and silicone rubber 150 °C types)
  • IS 9968 (Part 2): elastomer insulated cables from 3.3 kV up to and including 33 kV
  • BS EN 50525-2-21: flexible cables with cross-linked elastomeric insulation, up to 450/750 V

  • BS EN 50525-2-83: multicore cables with cross-linked silicone rubber insulation, 300/500 V, 180 °C
  • Note - Voltage range: printed as "0.6/1 kV to 3/36 kV"; 3/36 kV is not a standard grade (IEC 60502-2 runs up to 18/30 (36) kV), so we confirm the voltage grade with Polycab for each cable
  • Note - Silicone standards: BS EN 50525-2-41 and -2-83 cover silicone rubber cables, which are not among the insulations the catalogue lists (perhaps its heat-resistant type); we confirm with Polycab which windmill cables are made to them
  • Note - Catalogue picture: it shows a three-core, screened, wire-armoured MV power cable, as used at the tower base or to the transformer; torsion-resistant loop cables are flexible and unarmoured. Armour is not in the catalogue text - tell us if your route needs it

Why choose the Polycab Windmill Cable

  • Torsion-resistant cables for the twisting loop between the nacelle and the tower
  • Power and control cables for the tower and the turbine
  • Bare or tinned copper conductors
  • Rubber (EPR, CPE) and TPE options for flexing duty
  • LV and MV grades

How to choose and specify it

Torsion-resistant cable. The cables that hang from the nacelle twist as the turbine turns to face the wind (yaw). They must be flexible and torsion resistant - usually fine-stranded tinned copper with EPR (rubber) insulation and a rubber (CPE) or TPE sheath.

Tower and base cables. Power cables down the tower and to the transformer are usually LV or MV cables to IEC 60502-1 or -2; control and signal cables run alongside.

Specification. Wind turbine makers specify each cable type. Send us the turbine maker's specification and we confirm the matching Polycab cable.

Where it is used

  • Loop (twist) cables between nacelle and tower
  • Tower power cables to the turbine transformer
  • Control and signal wiring in the nacelle and tower
  • Wind farm auxiliary circuits
  • Repowering and maintenance of existing turbines

Frequently asked questions

What is the price of the Polycab Windmill Cable?

The Polycab Windmill Cable is supplied at a price on request, because cable prices depend on the construction, the quantity and the raw-material prices on the day. Call +91 9340081159 for a quotation.

What is a torsion-resistant cable?

A flexible cable designed to twist repeatedly without damage, used in the loop that hangs from the nacelle and twists as the turbine turns to face the wind.

Which voltage grades are available?

The catalogue prints 0.6/1 kV up to "3/36 kV". Because 3/36 kV is not a standard grade, and the BS EN 50525 types it lists are rated 300/500 V or 450/750 V, we confirm the grade with Polycab for each cable.

Which standards apply?

The catalogue lists IEC 60502-1 and -2, IS 9968 Parts 1 and 2, and BS EN 50525-2-21, 2-41 and 2-83.

Where can I buy the Polycab Windmill Cable in Chhattisgarh?

From Jai Enterprises, Bhilai and Raipur, which supplies Polycab cables to every district of Chhattisgarh and across India. Call +91 9340081159 for the price, stock and lead time.

How to order

Price on request: call +91 9340081159 or send an enquiry from this page with where the cable runs in the turbine, the voltage grade, the cores and size, the turbine maker's specification and the delivery location, and we will confirm the price, availability and lead time. Ask for the Polycab datasheet for your exact construction before you order.
