The Polycab EHV Power Cable is a single-core XLPE cable for extra-high-voltage transmission and sub-transmission circuits above 33 kV, made with a copper or aluminium conductor, water-blocking tapes, a copper screen - alone or with a poly-aluminium laminate or a lead sheath - or a corrugated aluminium sheath, and an HDPE outer sheath. Polycab's catalogue lists it as generally conforming to IS 7098 (Part 3), IEC 60840, IEC 62067 and ICEA S-108-720. It is supplied at a price on request: cable prices depend on the construction, the quantity and the raw-material prices on the day.

Is this the right one for you?
Check these four things before you order:
- The circuit runs above 33 kV - for 3.3 to 33 kV class circuits see the MV power cable.
- You have the system voltage and Um, the conductor material and size, and the fault current the metallic layer must carry.
- The route is known: direct buried, in ducts, troughs or a tunnel, with its length and joint bays.
- The joints, terminations and sheath bonding will be designed together with the cable.

Why choose the Polycab EHV Power Cable
- XLPE insulation between extruded semi-conducting screens - the standard construction for modern EHV cable
- Semi-conducting water-blocking tapes under the metallic layer, to stop water travelling along the cable
- A choice of metallic layer: copper screen alone or with a poly-aluminium laminate or a lead sheath, or a corrugated aluminium sheath
- Tough extruded HDPE outer sheath
- Copper or aluminium conductor
- Generally conforming to Indian, IEC and North American EHV standards
How to choose and specify it
System data. An EHV cable is engineered for its circuit. Send us the system voltage and Um, the load current, the earth-fault current and its duration, the route length and laying method, the soil thermal resistivity and ground temperature, and whether you prefer copper or aluminium.
Metallic layer. Your specification and the route usually decide whether the cable needs a radial water barrier - a poly-aluminium laminate, an extruded lead sheath or a corrugated aluminium sheath - or a copper screen alone. Many EHV specifications, especially for buried or wet routes, call for a radial barrier; use a copper screen alone only where your specification allows it. We confirm the design with Polycab.
Standard. Name the standard in your specification - IS 7098 (Part 3) for 66 to 220 kV in India, IEC 60840 above 30 kV up to 150 kV, IEC 62067 above 150 kV up to 500 kV, or ICEA S-108-720 for North American practice - and ask for the type test report for your voltage class.
Accessories and installation. Joints, terminations, link boxes and the sheath bonding arrangement (for example cross-bonding on long routes) are designed with the cable, and installed and tested by trained EHV jointers.

Frequently asked questions
What is the price of the Polycab EHV Power Cable?
The Polycab EHV Power Cable is supplied at a price on request, because cable prices depend on the construction, the quantity and the raw-material prices on the day. Call +91 9340081159 for a quotation.
Which voltage classes does it cover?
The catalogue lists the standards the EHV cable generally conforms to, rather than a voltage range. Those standards cover 66 to 220 kV (IS 7098 Part 3), above 30 kV up to 150 kV (IEC 60840), above 150 kV up to 500 kV (IEC 62067) and above 46 kV through 500 kV AC (ICEA S-108-720). We confirm with Polycab the voltage class, size and construction it supplies for your circuit.
Copper screen, laminate, lead sheath or corrugated aluminium sheath - which one?
The water-blocking tapes stop water travelling along the cable. A poly-aluminium laminate, a lead sheath or a corrugated aluminium sheath also stops water reaching the insulation from outside (a radial barrier); a copper screen on its own does not. The copper screen or the metallic sheath carries the earth-fault current. Your specification, the fault current and the route decide the design, and we confirm it with Polycab.
Copper or aluminium conductor?
Both are listed. Copper carries more current for a given size; aluminium needs a larger size for the same current but is lighter and usually costs less for the same rating.
Where can I buy the Polycab EHV Power Cable in Chhattisgarh?
From Jai Enterprises, Bhilai and Raipur, which supplies Polycab cables to every district of Chhattisgarh and across India. Call +91 9340081159 for the price, stock and lead time.
