TEREC+ gives the largest resistivity reduction in the HEX range of ground enhancing chemical compounds. Placed around an earth electrode, it lowers the resistivity of the surrounding soil by about 75% per bag per metre (HEX figure), against 50–65% for the other four, and it is the only one rated for all soil types. It is bentonite free: carbon works with dispersion, diffusion, ionising, expanding and hygroscopic agents and patented additives. It comes in handy 5 kg bags.
An earthing system is only as good as the soil around it. When extra rods or longer conductors stop bringing the resistance down, the practical alternative is to improve the soil next to the electrode — in effect giving the rod a much larger diameter. That is the job of an earth enhancing compound, and TEREC+ is the one to reach for when the ground is poor and the target is demanding. It is part of the HEX range of ground enhancing chemical compounds (HEX is the earthing and cable-accessories brand of Brass Copper & Alloy (I) Ltd.).

Why choose TEREC+
- Largest reduction in the range — about 75% lower soil resistivity per bag per metre, against 50–65% for the other HEX compounds.
- Works in all soils — the only HEX compound rated for all soil types.
- Bentonite free, with patented additives — carbon plus dispersion, diffusion, ionising, expanding and hygroscopic agents.
- Easy to handle — 5 kg bags are light to carry to towers, rooftops and remote earth pits.
- Kind to soil and electrodes — RoHS compliant, non-corrosive and compatible with all types of earthing electrode.
- Stable in all weathers and with a long shelf life, so spare bags keep until they are needed.

How TEREC+ works
TEREC+ is placed around the electrode in the bore or trench, and the excavation is then backfilled. The compound creates a low-resistivity zone far wider than the rod, so fault and lightning current pass into the ground over a much larger surface. Its ionising and hygroscopic constituents hold ions and moisture, and its expanding agents keep close contact with the surrounding soil, so the resistance stays steady through dry and wet seasons.
Where it is used
- Difficult ground — rocky, sandy or high-resistivity soil — where rods alone cannot reach the target resistance (HEX rates TEREC+ for all soil types)
- Telecom towers, substations and power plants that need a low earth resistance
- Lightning-protection earth pits for buildings, factories and warehouses
- Refurbishing existing earth pits whose resistance has crept up
- Sites where every bag has to be carried by hand — 5 kg packs
Which HEX earth enhancing compound do I need?
- TEREC+ (this page) — the largest quoted reduction, about 75% per bag per metre; bentonite free; rated for all soil types; 5 kg bags.
- EARTHCON — the lowest self resistivity of the range, 0.098 Ω·m; about 65% reduction; carbon and bentonite based; 12.5 kg bags.
- TERRAPRO — bentonite free and HEX-made; 0.18 Ω·m; about 60% reduction; 25 kg bags.
- TERRAHEX — HEX-made carbon and bentonite backfill with hygroscopic agents; 0.80 Ω·m; about 55% reduction; 25 kg bags.
- TERRANITE — carbon free, bentonite based; 0.91 Ω·m; about 50% reduction; for normal soils; 25 kg bags.
- Not sure? Send the soil resistivity report, the equipment to be earthed and the target resistance, and the right compound or blend is recommended.

Frequently asked questions
How much does TEREC+ reduce earth resistance?
HEX quotes an approximate reduction in soil resistivity of about 75% per bag per metre — the largest of its five compounds. The earth resistance you finally measure depends on the soil, the electrode and the quantity used.
Does TEREC+ contain bentonite?
No. TEREC+ is bentonite free; it uses carbon with dispersion, diffusion, ionising, expanding and hygroscopic agents and patented constituents.
Which soils is TEREC+ suitable for?
All soil types, according to HEX — the only compound in its range with that rating.
TEREC+ or EARTHCON?
TEREC+ gives the larger quoted reduction (about 75% against 65%), is bentonite free and suits all soils. EARTHCON has the lower self resistivity (0.098 against 0.2 Ω·m) and comes in 12.5 kg bags.
How many bags do I need?
That depends on the bore or trench size, the electrode length, the soil resistivity and the earth resistance you need. Send those details and the number of bags — or a blend of HEX compounds — is worked out for you.
Is it safe for the soil and the earth electrode?
Yes. HEX states that its compounds are RoHS compliant and do not pollute the surrounding soil, and that they are non-corrosive and compatible with all types of earthing electrode.
