HEX solid copper earth rods are made entirely from 99.9% pure electrolytic copper, so there is no steel core to corrode. They offer greater resistance to corrosion and are the right choice where soil conditions are very aggressive — for example soil with a high salt content. Made by HEX, the brand of Brass Copper & Alloy (I) Ltd., Mumbai — an ISO 9001 company whose products are tested by CPRI (India), UL (USA), KEMA (Netherlands) and SIRIM (Malaysia).
Rods come internally threaded (joined with a coupling dowel) or externally threaded, and the 20 mm × 2540 mm rod is UL listed to UL 467.
At a glance
- Material: 99.9% pure electrolytic copper, solid
- Internally threaded: 15 and 20 mm, 1200 / 1500 mm; 20 mm × 2540 mm (10 ft)
- Externally threaded: 14 mm, 5/8" and 3/4" threads, 1200 and 1500 mm
- UL listed: HSC-1021 (20 mm × 2540 mm), UL 467
- Accessories: driving heads, coupling dowels, driving tips — 15 and 20 mm
- Tested: BS EN 62561-2 on a 16 mm × 1.2 m solid copper rod (SIRIM QAS International, Malaysia)
Why choose a solid copper rod
- Nothing to corrode underneath — the whole rod is copper, so there is no coating to wear through in hostile soil.
- Built for salt and chemicals — HEX recommends solid copper where soil conditions are very aggressive, such as soil with a high salt content.
- Extendable — internally threaded rods are joined end to end with coupling dowels to reach low-resistance layers.
- Proper driving kit — a hardened driving head protects the thread while driving and a driving tip eases entry into the ground.

Where it is used
- Coastal substations and plants with saline soil
- Chemical, fertiliser and petrochemical plants
- Marshy or waterlogged ground
- Critical earthing where the electrode must last the life of the installation
Which earth rod do I need?
- Copper-bonded steel — the everyday choice: steel strength to drive deep, copper surface for low resistance; 25 µm standard, 250–254 µm for long life and UL listing.
- Solid copper (this page) — the most corrosion-resistant, for very aggressive or salty soils.
- Copper-clad steel — a 250 µm copper tube pressed onto a steel core, when a thick, even copper layer is specified.
- Stainless steel — where the rod is buried close to other metals and galvanic corrosion is the concern.

Frequently asked questions
When should I use a solid copper earth rod instead of a copper bonded one?
When the soil is very aggressive — for example high salt content — and you want the electrode to resist corrosion for as long as possible.
How are internally threaded solid copper rods joined?
With a coupling dowel (HCH-15 or HCH-20) screwed into the threaded ends of two rods.
Which HEX solid copper rod is UL listed?
HSC-1021, the 20 mm × 2540 mm (10 ft) internally threaded rod, is UL listed to UL 467.
Do I need a driving head?
Yes — fit the driving head (HDH) while hammering so the thread is not damaged, and a driving tip (HDT) on the first rod.
