HEX copper bonded earth rods are grounding electrodes made from low-carbon steel to IS 2062 with a layer of 99.9% pure electrolytic copper molecularly bonded to the surface. The steel core gives the strength to drive the rod deep without bending; the copper gives low resistance to ground and resistance to corrosion. Made by HEX, the brand of Brass Copper & Alloy (I) Ltd., Mumbai — an ISO 9001 company whose products are tested by CPRI (India), UL (USA), KEMA (Netherlands) and SIRIM (Malaysia).
The range runs from 25-micron threaded rods for general earthing to 250–254-micron rods — the 14.2 mm and 17.2 mm rods comply with IEC 62561-2, and the rods marked UL are listed to UL 467 and CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 41.

Why choose HEX copper bonded rods
- A bond that will not crack — the copper is molecularly bonded, so the rod lasts longer, drives more easily and the coating does not peel when driven.
- Roll-formed threads — threads are rolled, not cut, so the copper stays unbroken right to the root of the thread, and rolled threads are stronger than cut ones.
- Thread larger than the shank — rolling raises the metal, so the thread diameter is greater than the rod diameter and couplers seat securely.
- Independently tested — short-circuit withstand tests at CPRI on 14.2, 17.2, 25 and 32 mm rods; IEC 62561-2 tests on 14.2 × 2 m and 17.2 × 3 m rods; copper thickness verified on 17 mm rods.
- UL listed where it matters — codes marked for UL are listed to UL 467 with a minimum 254 µm of copper.

- Buildings, apartments and commercial complexes
- Solar plants and wind farms
- Lightning-protection earth terminations

Which earth rod do I need?
- Copper-bonded steel (this page) — the everyday choice: steel strength to drive deep, copper surface for low resistance; 25 µm standard, 250–254 µm for long life and UL listing.
- Solid copper — the most corrosion-resistant, for very aggressive or salty soils.
- Copper-clad steel — a 250 µm copper tube pressed onto a steel core, when a thick, even copper layer is specified.
- Stainless steel — where the rod is buried close to other metals and galvanic corrosion is the concern.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between 25-micron and 250-micron copper bonded rods?
The thickness of the copper layer. 25 µm is the standard on HEX threaded rods; 250–254 µm gives a much longer life in the ground and is what IEC 62561-2 and UL 467 listed rods use.
Are HEX copper bonded rods UL listed?
The codes marked for UL are listed to UL 467 and CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 41, with at least 254 µm of copper — for example HBR-305 (14.2 mm × 3.05 m) and HBR-305 B (17.2 mm × 3.05 m).
Why does it matter that the threads are rolled?
Rolling forms the thread without cutting through the copper, so the coating stays continuous to the root of the thread, the thread is stronger, and its diameter ends up larger than the shank.
How are rods joined to go deeper?
Threaded rods are joined with couplers and driven with a driving stud; see HEX couplers and driving studs.
Which sizes are most used in India?
Rods of 14.2 mm and 17.2 mm diameter, 2 to 3 m long, are the usual choice for buildings, substations and towers; 25 and 32 mm diameter rods are used where higher fault currents are expected.
