HEX mechanically copper-clad earth rods are made by fitting an electrolytic-grade copper tube with a 0.25 mm (250 micron) wall over a high-tensile, low-carbon steel rod, using pressure and heat to form a metallurgical bond. The result is a rod with the driving strength of steel and a thick, uniform copper surface. Made by HEX, the brand of Brass Copper & Alloy (I) Ltd., Mumbai — an ISO 9001 company whose products are tested by CPRI (India), UL (USA), KEMA (Netherlands) and SIRIM (Malaysia).
At a glance
- Construction: electrolytic copper tube, 0.25 mm wall, bonded to high-tensile low-carbon steel
- Copper thickness: 250 µm
- Rod sizes: 12, 14, 16 and 19 mm
- Lengths: 1200, 1800, 2400 and 3000 mm (4, 6, 8, 10 ft)
- Codes: HCR series
- Options: threaded, or made to customer specification
Why choose copper-clad rods
- Thick, even copper — a 250 µm tube gives a consistent copper layer along the full length.
- Metallurgical bond — pressure and heat bond the tube to the core rather than just sleeving it.
- Steel strength for driving — the high-tensile core resists bending when driven into hard ground.
- Threading on request — for coupled, deep-driven electrodes.

Which earth rod do I need?
- Copper-bonded steel — the everyday choice: steel strength to drive deep, copper surface for low resistance; 25 µm standard, 250–254 µm for long life and UL listing.
- Solid copper — the most corrosion-resistant, for very aggressive or salty soils.
- Copper-clad steel (this page) — a 250 µm copper tube pressed onto a steel core, when a thick, even copper layer is specified.
- Stainless steel — where the rod is buried close to other metals and galvanic corrosion is the concern.

Frequently asked questions
What is a copper-clad earth rod?
A steel rod covered with a copper tube that is bonded to it — HEX uses a 0.25 mm electrolytic copper tube fitted by pressure and heat to form a metallurgical bond.
How is it different from a copper-bonded rod?
Copper-bonded rods have copper deposited onto the steel; clad rods have a formed copper tube pressed onto it. Both combine a steel core with a copper surface.
Which sizes are available?
12, 14, 16 and 19 mm rods in 1200 to 3000 mm lengths, codes HCR-1412 to HCR-430.
Can the rods be threaded?
Yes — threading and other sizes can be supplied to customer specification.
