Raytech Magic Gel is a two-component insulating and sealing gel for power-cable connections. Poured into a joint shell or an enclosure, it surrounds the conductors, cross-links cold in about 10-15 minutes and gives IP68 - and it can replace all types of resin. Raytech is an Italian manufacturer that specialises in gel-based insulation for electrical connections: pre-filled gel boxes and joints that are ready to use straight from the pack, and insulating gels and rubbers for filling joints, boxes and enclosures.

It is made for energy systems: 1 kV operation and 4 kV testing, 90 °C operating and 250 °C short-circuit temperatures, humid locations and flooded wells. The gel stays soft, so the connection can be re-entered after years, and it has no shelf life. Five pack sizes, each with its own page and price.

Choose your Magic Gel pack

Prices are per pack; the price per 100 ml is shown so the sizes can be compared.

  • Magic Gel 300 - 300 ml, 2 bottles (about Rs 1,146 per 100 ml) - Rs 3,439 per pack
  • Magic Gel 420 - 420 ml, 1 single two-component bottle, 1 jug and 1 wooden spatula (about Rs 1,051 per 100 ml) - Rs 4,413 per pack
  • Magic Gel 1000 - 1000 ml, 2 bottles, 1 jug and 1 wooden spatula (about Rs 1,027 per 100 ml) - Rs 10,274 per pack
  • Magic Gel 2000 - 2 x 1000 ml, 2 single two-component bottles, 1 jug and 1 wooden spatula (about Rs 950 per 100 ml) - Rs 18,991 per pack
  • Magic Gel 10000 - 10 litres, 2 tanks, 1 jug and 1 wooden spatula (about Rs 921 per 100 ml) - Rs 92,144 per pack

How to choose the pack

Choose by the volume you need to fill: add up the free space inside the joint shells or boxes and allow a little extra. 300 ml and 420 ml suit one or two joints; 1000 ml and 2 x 1000 ml suit a day of jointing; 10 litres suits large boxes or stock for a team. The larger packs work out cheaper per litre.

For a gel in a single bottle that you can apply by hand and re-use, see Magic Power Gel.

  • Classification: not classified as hazardous under the CLP Regulation; no shelf life
  • Requirements it is made to meet (energy systems): Insulation for 1 kV operation and 4 kV testing; Thermal performance for power cable: 90 °C operating, 130 °C overload, 250 °C short circuit; Sealing in humid environments and flooded wells; Works with water between the cable cores; Gel and casing together must comply with CEI 20-33 and EN 50393 - use it in a suitable joint shell or enclosure

Why choose Magic Gel

  • Replaces resin - cast in a suitable casing, the gel gives IP68 and can replace all types of resin
  • Cures cold and fast - cross-links in about 10-15 minutes at 23 °C with a very low exothermic peak, so it does not heat-stress the parts it touches
  • Very low viscosity - surrounds and envelops any material, filling the spaces between conductors
  • Re-enterable - stays a soft gel, so the connection can be opened even after long service
  • Made for power cable - 1 kV operation, 4 kV testing, 90 °C operating and 250 °C short-circuit temperatures
  • Safe and long-lasting - not classified as hazardous under CLP, completely non-toxic, no shelf life

How to use it

  1. Make the connection inside a suitable casing - a joint shell or an enclosure - and close it.
  2. Mix the two components for no more than 30 seconds, then pour within 1 minute so the gel fills the casing around the connection.
  3. Leave it to cross-link: about 10-15 minutes at 23 °C. The cured gel stays soft and can be opened again later.

Where it is used

  • Filling joint shells on 1 kV power cables
  • Sealing junction and connection boxes in wet locations and flooded wells
  • Underground and submerged connections for lighting, pumps and fountains
  • Replacing resin in cast joints
  • Protecting terminal connections in outdoor equipment
