How to choose and fit it

Certification first. A flameproof fitting is chosen by the hazardous-area classification of the place it goes, and its certificate must cover the zone (Ex d suits Zones 1 and 2, not Zone 0), the gas group (IIA, IIB or IIC), the temperature class and your ambient range; for dust areas it must also carry a dust marking for Zone 21 or 22 with the dust group and the maximum surface temperature. On sites licensed by PESO (petroleum, gas or explosives), the model must also carry PESO approval - we send it with the certificate. Share the classification with us and we will confirm the certified model and send the certificate copy before you order.

Wattage. As a rough guide at 120 lm/W, 80 to 100 W suits mounting heights of about 6 to 7 m and 120 to 150 W heights of about 7 to 9 m; for higher roofs, send us the area, mounting height and the light level needed and we will propose a layout. Below a mounting height of about 6 m, the 60 or 70 W flameproof well glass light may be enough (at heights of 6 to 7 m either can work - we confirm with a layout).

Size. Polycab's drawing (shared by the flameproof well glass and high bay) shows it about 335 mm across (±5 mm); the height is labelled 326 mm, although the side view is drawn much shorter, so we confirm the size for your wattage.

Mounting. It hangs from its eye bolt with a safety chain; Polycab's drawing also shows a U-bracket - ask us if you need bracket mounting.

Installation. In a hazardous area, a qualified electrician must install and maintain the fitting, glands and wiring to the certificate and your site's hazardous-area rules. Use certified flameproof glands, close unused entries with certified stopping plugs, earth the fitting and keep the flame paths clean. Never open the enclosure while it is live or where an explosive atmosphere may be present; follow the permit-to-work and any waiting time marked on the label. It runs on 220 to 240 V AC.
